Hip Image Photo Booth celebrates Small Business Week, the importance of supporting local business and diversity in ownership

October 18, 2023

CALGARY, ALBERTA – Hip Image, a leading provider of interactive photo booth experiences in Alberta, is thrilled to participate in Small Business Week October 15-21 to highlight the importance of supporting local business and diversity in ownership. Small Business Week provides a platform to honour the invaluable contributions of local entrepreneurs while recognizing the positive impact of diversity in fostering innovation and creativity.

This year, Small Business Week holds a special significance as we recognize the resilience and adaptability of small businesses during challenging times. Hip Image has not only navigated recent challenges particularly faced by the event industry but has bounced back with even more unique options and a commitment to the community.

“At Hip Image, we celebrate the strength of local small business, and the power of diversity,” said Jo Williams, Hip Image Co-Founder. “Small Business Week offers us an opportunity to showcase our unique approach to photo activations in the event industry, our dedication to the community and the diversity within our ownership and team.”

The company is a partnership between one of the city’s leading photographers, Monique de St. Croix, and a veteran of the communications industry, Jo Williams, who recognized an opportunity to offer a different type of photo booth experience that would be packaged in an entirely new way. “We were the first in Canada to introduce the mobile photo booth concept in a VW bus,” said Williams. “It was an immediate hit, but not without the challenges that comes with a 1972 vehicle. Since then, we have expanded our fleet to include a retro Boler trailer, 360-degree video booth and so much more.”

With Williams’ Indigenous background, they embarked on building sets specifically for these cultural events, and their Métis trapper’s cabin photo booth set has become a sought-after activation, just one of the many ways they differentiate their business.

Small Business Week encourages the community to recognize the significant role of small local businesses and to actively support them. When you support local businesses like Hip Image, you are not only investing in your community’s prosperity but also promoting diversity and inclusivity within Calgary’s business ecosystem.
